THP Sgt. Lowell Russell, 39, was parked off I-40 near Walker Springs Road when a tractor-trailer hit him causing the early-morning crash March 13. Lowell suffered life-threatening injuries. Knoxville police and a passing paramedic and his partner rescued Lowell from his burning cruiser. He suffered a brain injury, second-degree burns, smoke inhalation and a fractured neck, spine and rib cage. Lowell is in serious condition at University of Tennessee Medical Center.
